8th Graders provide seats for Outdoor Classroom

In collaboration with Master gardener Janet Hutchinson, FMS students and teachers worked together to create a new outdoor learning space at the Middle School.  Mr. Barnard’s Multi-age built a deck platform and Mr. Adams’ 8th graders made the seats.

Students chose favorite books form their childhood and recreated the covers on the sanded tops of large logs (donated by Mr. Fox).  The students first had to lean off the logs, some stripping off all the bark, others choosing a more natural look.  They then sketched out their designs and finally added paint for full color.  The stools were then varnished to protect them from the elements and tested out in the space.  Mrs. Palfrey and Mr. Hogan attended the brief presentation.  These stools will be a lasting gift to FMS and show off some really excellent young talent and dedication.  Well done.
