8th Graders complete giant portrait!

After many weeks and lots and lots (and lots) of squares, Mr. Adams’ 8th graders have pieced together a massive portrait of school librarian, Mrs. Becksvoort, in the distinct style of artist Chuck Close.

Close gained great fame for his hyper-detailed (and giant sized) portraits in the 60s and 70s.  After suffering a spinal artery collapse at age 48 that left him almost completely paralyzed, Close never gave up.  Instead he reinvented his style by way of using an enormous grid, a mechanized rotating easel, and many many small abstract squares.   His perseverance and dedication to his art have made him even more successful and he is still painting today.  For more information on this amazing artist, click here.
