After an eventful summer (including a trip to Italy to visit the works of the great masters first hand) the school year has started again and is now in full swing. Students have been working hard and steadily in the art room and new work is finally ready for display.
Eighth graders faced the challenge of careful observation and detail drawing of this large and complex still life. They worked hard to look at the many varied textures and values over the expansive set-up. Students began with basic shapes to lay out the entire drawing, then moved on to contour and edges and finally we spotlights to create bold shadows to be drawn with softer, darker pencils. Take a look at the results of this classic art lesson.
