Grade 7 Sees Spots

7th grade mask designs were inspired by the style of native artisans from Sumatra, Java, Bali and the other islands of Indonesia who use small dots to create complex patterns.  Each masks features a spirit animal chosen by the student.  The lesson had two parts, first the building of the 3D masks with clay and then dividing the mask into sections and using very careful brushwork to add hundreds of tiny dots. The final products are simply beautiful.
