8th Grade Metalurgy

8th graders completed some very detailed metal work using various tools to emboss into thin copper sheets.  This process, known as repousse, is a method of creating a relief sculpture in metal by pressing from one side, then pressing again from the reverse side.  Over time copper oxidizes and a beautiful patina will occur; that process has been recreated by rubbing ink over the surface then removing the excess.
