In this lesson we started off by looking at different Japanese contemporary vases and vessels. The students had a few objectives and guidelines to follow. They had to build a vase or vessel that was at least 8 inches tall. Use slab construction and overlapping organic and/or geometric shapes. Show examples of pattern, repetition, movement and texture. It was a challenging undertaking for the students, but as you can see they turned out beautiful!
Thank you to MECA (Maine College of Art) student teacher, Heather Gilbert, for leading this lesson.
