Seventh grade artist, Sophie Magadieu, was honored, along with student artists from around the state of Maine, yesterday at a ceremony in Augusta for the Maine Youth Excellence in Art award. Sophie’s painting of a hummingbird, inspired by the work of Maine artist Dahlov Ipcar, has been on display in the Cross government building in Augusta since January.
The reception held yesterday included some words from the Maine Arts Commission (MAC) chair, Charles Stanhope, as well as the First Lady of Maine, Ann Lepage. Lepage spoke of the importance of the arts in Maine schools and how impressed she was by our state’s young artists and the dedication of their teachers. Each awardee was presented with a certificate and will have their work on display in various government buildings for the next several months.
Congratulations to Sophie! Huzzah!
