‘Cos Ya Gotta Have SPACE

Who hasn’t been in a museum and wished they could climb into a painting? Stretch their hand into the world inside the frame?

Mr. Adams’ 8th grade students explored the idea of 3D space in 2D famous artwork. Each student chose a piece by a famous artist and determined how that artist should the “illusion of depth” using foreground, middle ground, and background, as well as overlapping and perspective.

They then had to choose the best art medium (paint, pastel, watercolor, etc) with which to recreate the piece, and separately create each layer of the imagined space. The pieces were them cut out and positioned, each layer being lifted off the previous with foam dots.
