A great deal of art has been completed in the last few days and I am excited to post it up on our online gallery pages.
6th graders have completed detailed illustrations based on scenes from their favorite books. They needed to create exciting and interesting compositions including characters, backgrounds, and lots of detail. They also included multiple different drawing techniques (such as stippling, hatching, scumbling, and smudging) to show texture and create a range of dark and light values on the page.
Meanwhile 5th grade has just finished a lengthy unit about landscapes that included both 2D and 3D work. Their landscape sculptures incorporated many textures and were then painted with careful detail and layering to create a natural effect.
While the pieces were fired in the kiln the students focused on pastel drawings that showed the “illusion of depth” with fore/middle/ backgrounds and lots of overlapping. Pastels were used in order to fill the whole page and eliminate any white paper.
